Project Experience and Activities
Since its establishment, BOCODEP has successfully and credibly designed, executed, and implemented a wide range of development, governance, and peace-building projects, including the following:
Trained all elected National and State legislators from the North-East (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe States) on democratic processes, resource management, and conflict management in 1999, as part of preparations for the return to democratic governance, with support from USAID/OTI.
Trained all elected Chairmen and Councillors from local government areas across the North-East on democratic processes, resource management, and conflict management in 1999, in preparation for the take-off of democracy, with support from USAID/OTI.
Trained reporters from media houses across northern Nigeria on journalistic ethics and professional conduct in 2000.
Trained reporters from the North-East and Plateau State on conflict-sensitive reporting in 2001.
Conducted voter education and voter mobilization activities for the 2003 general elections in Magumeri, Gubio, Monguno, Dikwa, and Konduga Local Government Areas, with support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
Organised town-hall meetings between local government chairmen, councillors, and community development associations to promote continuous consultation and good governance at the grassroots level, supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES).
Trained journalists from the North-East on conflict-sensitive reporting with support from FES, and produced a publication on the same theme.
Implemented peer sensitization programmes on HIV/AIDS with support from the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).
Trained civil society organisations (CSOs) and community leaders on conflict management strategies at the community level.
Produced and distributed copies of the Press Code of Ethics to promote ethical and responsible reporting in the Nigerian media.
Conducted Peace Research Partnership (PRP) activities for Conciliation Resources (CR), United Kingdom, in selected conflict-affected communities in Borno State, focusing on peacebuilding and reconciliation.
Current Project
BOCODEP is currently implementing the “Peace by the People” project, also known as the Youth Peace Platform (YPP), in partnership with Conciliation Resources (CR), United Kingdom, in selected communities across Borno State.
The project covers a wide range of activities, including:
Training on safeguarding (non-sexual harassment and zero-tolerance for harassment)
Women Peace Kitchen initiatives and women’s economic empowerment
Youth-led peacebuilding and community projects
Dialogue and mediation training
Civil society advocacy and engagement training
