In Gwange community, a longstanding dispute between neighbours was reconciled as a result of the CSSF project.
Aisha Gwange: a cripple female participant and Malam Bello and his wife Zainbu: both of them are blind participants. Aisha and Malam Bello are neighbours.
They quarrel because of dirty water that Bello’s children use to throw in front of Aisha’s house. She spoke to them about the attitude of their children but the children tell their parent that Aisha use to insult them because their parents are blind. Malam Bello and his wife Zainabu believe their children. This make Bello and his wife to hold grudges with Aisha and stopped greetings. Aisha became disturbed and worried over the refusal of her neighbours to relate well with her. In one of the dialogue sessions under the CSSF project in Gwange, Aisha open up on the issue and expressed her dislike for continuation of holding grudges by Malam Bello and his wife. Therefore, she requested for the reconciliation of the issue. After series of follow up session with the parties, community leader (Bulama) and his council, and the community contact person, were able to resolved the dispute. Aisha and her neighbours (Malam Bello and his wife) are now living in peace in Gwange community.
In Bulabulin Alajeri community, MMC Local Government Area of Borno state, an aged widow with her two sons lives in a thatch house with no toilet facility. She mentioned that her eldest son was killed in one of the attacks on the community by the Boko Haram insurgents, he died and left behind two of his children (her grandchildren) to take care of. Her second son has been in bed for a long time. Her complained was how the community members are badly treating her grandchildren whenever they go out to defaecate at the nearby bush area. She felt disturbed due to lack of toilet facility in the thatched house.
In one of the dialogue sessions under CSSF project, the aged widow mentioned she have to beg people for money or food before she can feed her grandchildren who are also orphans. In this respect, she appeals for assistance, to enable her get toilet facility in her thatch house, so that the community members will stop maltreating her grandchildren.Under the CSSF project, BOCODEP was able to linked her up with a participant working with INGO and follow through with the International NGO that focus on area of shelter. The INGO constructed a new tent and provided toilet facility for the aged widow. This assistance was actualised as result of CSSF project.
In Moromti community, Malam Abdu Moromti expressed his delight for his involvement as participant in the CSSF project. He explained as a disable who using tricycle, nobody in the state ever invited him or anyone of the disabled group in Moromti community for any discussion that will help the community. He mentioned disabled persons are seen as not competent to contribute anything to the community. However, he expressed his happiness and for the first time, he participated in a meeting with other community members, and he have learned how to speak out.
He expressed his readiness to be involved in events that has to do with the progress of the community. He mentioned as a result of his participation and lessons learned from the CSSF project, he is now able to gather his fellow persons with disability and teach them how to speak out especially in the areas of sensitising them on right to vote in the next coming election and how to articulate their demands to all the contestants because they also have their voters card.
